At the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM), we believe that fostering an appreciation for nature in our youth is key to a sustainable future. This week, we were delighted to host the Grade 6 students of Hope Academy for a two-day educational exposure visit at our Multi Utility Centre (MUC) in Sovima.
On February 3rd and 4th, over 100 students swapped their traditional classrooms for the buzzing environment of our honey hub. It was an inspiring experience to see such young minds engage so deeply with the world of apiculture.
Highlights of the Educational Tour
Our team led the students through a comprehensive journey of the honey value chain:
-
The Science of the Hive: Students were taught the basics of beekeeping and the critical role bees play in the conservation of our ecosystem.

-
Pollination & Agriculture: We emphasized the vital pollination services provided by honey bees, helping the children understand the direct link between bees and the food on our tables.

-
MUC Operations: At our Multi Utility Centre, the pupils explored post-harvest marketing strategies and learned how we promote the various unique varieties of Nagaland honey.

-
Innovation & By-Products: At the Honey Hub Centre, we showcased scientific bee boxes and modern beekeeping equipment. The students also got a firsthand look at value-added by-products, including beeswax and various honey-based goods.
Empowering Future Conservationists
It was a joy to witness the curiosity of the students as they observed the bees and learned about the meticulous process of honey production. By educating our students on the importance of beekeeping, we are planting the seeds for a greener Nagaland and a more secure agricultural future.
We commend Hope Academy for taking this initiative to provide their students with practical, field-based learning.
“This visit helped our students learn about beekeeping, honey production, and the importance of bees in nature and agriculture.” — Excerpt from the Hope Academy visit request.
We look forward to welcoming more schools to our centre and continuing our mission to make Nagaland a premier hub for beekeeping excellence.
