The Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) recently had the pleasure of hosting a team from the North East Initiative Development Agency (NEIDA) for an interactive exposure and learning visit at our facility.

The visit served as a vibrant platform for knowledge exchange, focusing on scientific apiculture, institutional support frameworks, and the rapidly growing honey value chain in the region.

 Deep Dives into Scientific Beekeeping

The day commenced with a comprehensive PowerPoint presentation by Letgong Patrick, who introduced the NEIDA team to NBHM’s organizational structure, departmental functions, and the systematic, sustainable beekeeping practices we promote across the state. The session set a solid foundation, offering the visitors a clear understanding of how structured institutional support—ranging from technical guidance to infrastructure development—can uplift rural livelihoods.

From Hive to Market: Exploring Value Addition

A major highlight for the visitors was exploring how beekeeping transitions from a traditional practice into a viable commercial enterprise. The team engaged deeply in discussions regarding:

  • Advanced processing techniques.
  • Value addition of bee byproducts.
  • Quality grading, testing, and modern packaging systems.

To bridge theory with practice, the NEIDA team was taken on a guided tour of our grading, processing, and manufacturing units. This hands-on exposure allowed participants to observe commercial honey production workflows and processing machinery in real-time.

“The interaction session was highly beneficial, as all queries—from preparation of bee hives to honey harvesting practices—were patiently addressed by the expert team… greatly enhancing our technical confidence.” > — NEIDA Visiting Team

A Shared Vision for the Future

An energetic Q&A session wrapped up the technical itinerary, where NBHM experts tackled everything from basic hive maintenance to complex harvesting queries.

NBHM extends its heartfelt thanks to the NEIDA team for their enthusiastic participation and kind words of appreciation, with a special shout-out to Victoria Zaphu for seamlessly guiding the team throughout their visit.

Collaborations like these reinforce our commitment to making Nagaland a premier hub for scientific apiculture. We wish the NEIDA team the very best as they integrate these insights into their future community development and capacity-building initiatives!
